Miss Pole Dance UK – A Legacy of Excellence in Pole Fitness

 

​Founded in 2005 by Kay Penney, Miss Pole Dance UK was the first official pole competition in the country and one of the first in the World! A  turning point in recognising pole fitness as a legitimate sport and performance art that had previously only been available in gentlemen's clubs.

What began as a single national event soon evolved into an international movement that celebrated strength, creativity, and safety, shaping the standards for pole competitions worldwide.

Today, Miss Pole Dance UK remains part of the Pole Passion legacy, upholding values of professionalism, inclusion, and safety while inspiring new generations of performers and instructors.

  • 2005 – The first Miss Pole Dance UK competition

  • 2007 – Launch of the World Pole Dance Championships, hosted by Pole Passion

  • 2010–2020 – Expansion into doubles, men’s, and amateur categories

  • 2026 – Relaunching the event under Pole Passion’s global brand, keeping its roots in excellence and innovation

In 2005, pole fitness was unheard of. This groundbreaking event gave performers a professional stage, audience recognition, and industry respect. From the start, Pole Passion focused on safe equipment, fair judging, and positive representation, helping transition pole from clubs to studios and sporting arenas.

​

Miss Pole Dance UK became a benchmark for safe and credible pole competitions, influencing instructor training standards and the creation of the Pole Grading System. Through refosing pole 'dance' as more fitness and dance, we created Pole Instructor Training to offer safe and certified teaching courses. These courses now available worldwide through our dedicated platform at courses.passion.fitness.

 

The event’s impact can be seen in how pole fitness is perceived today, as a legitimate sport combining artistry, athleticism, and empowerment.
